Attribute Value
CVE ID CVE-2025-1094
CVSS Score 8.1
Product PostgreSQL
Type SQL Injection / RCE

Description

High-severity SQL injection vulnerability affecting the PostgreSQL interactive tool psql. Originates from PostgreSQL's handling of invalid UTF-8 characters, allowing threat actors to weaponize SQL injection using the "!" shortcut command to abuse shell commands. Public exploit available.

Affected Versions

  • PostgreSQL prior to 17.3, 16.7, 15.11, 14.16, and 13.19

Mitigation

  1. Upgrade to PostgreSQL 17.3, 16.7, 15.11, 14.16, or 13.19
  2. Restrict psql access
  3. Validate all inputs

Verification Process

The PoC uses a multi-stage verification approach:

Step 1: Product/Version Detection (Passive)

[*] Query target endpoint
[*] Detect product signatures and extract version
[*] Check if version is in vulnerable range

Step 2: Active Vulnerability Testing

Method Description Detection
Error-based Tests for error messages indicating vulnerability Error indicators in response
Timing-based Measures response delay with payload Response time significantly longer
Response-based Checks for expected patterns in response Vulnerability indicators present
