Attribute Value
CVE ID CVE-2025-55752
CVSS Score 8.6
Product Apache Tomcat
Type Directory Traversal / RCE

Description

Directory traversal vulnerability stemming from a regression introduced while fixing a previous bug. Allows attackers to manipulate request URIs through rewritten URLs that are normalized before being decoded. When PUT requests are enabled, attackers can upload malicious files to achieve remote code execution.

Affected Versions

  • Apache Tomcat (versions before October 2025 patch)

Mitigation

  1. Apply latest Tomcat security updates
  2. Disable PUT requests if not needed
  3. Review rewrite rules configuration

Verification Process

The PoC uses a multi-stage verification approach:

Step 1: Product/Version Detection (Passive)

[*] Query target endpoint
[*] Detect product signatures and extract version
[*] Check if version is in vulnerable range

Step 2: Active Vulnerability Testing

Method Description Detection
Error-based Tests for error messages indicating vulnerability Error indicators in response
Timing-based Measures response delay with payload Response time significantly longer
Response-based Checks for expected patterns in response Vulnerability indicators present
